STEP 1:
Answer each question based on the facts of where you currently are, not where you've been, not where you wish you were, and not where you want others to think you are. Be honest with yourself.

Assessment scale

This scale isn’t intended to shame or condemn you. It is intended to help you look at the facts of where you are so you can determine the path forward to where you want to be.

A low score doesn’t make you bad. A high score doesn’t make you good.

Remember, we talk and think in terms of healthy and unhealthy, strong and weak, more than good and bad.

If you have an unhealthy/weak score, okay. It is what it is. So let’s get to work and get healthier, stronger, together.

THE JOURNEY IS COMING.

RESOURCES

7-Day Survival Guide

The 7-Day Survival Guide.

Go ahead. Say it. “I am needy.” Because you are. It’s actually a sign of strength and self-awareness to admit it and then take the steps to get those needs met.

10 Behaviors of Unresolved Trauma

  1. Anxiety or panic attacks that occur in what would be considered normal situations
  2. A feeling of shame; an innate feeling that they are bad, worthless, or without importance
  3. Suffering from chronic or ongoing depression
  4. Practicing avoidance of people, places, or things that may be related to the traumatic event; this also can include an avoidance of any place which brings up unpleasant emotions
  5. Sleeping issues including trouble going to sleep or staying asleep
  6. Suffering from feelings of detachment, or feeling “dead inside” (this is perhaps the most devastating of the signs because it creates a feeling of loneliness and isolation)
  7. Dissociation as a real disconnect in situations and conversations
  8. Hyper-vigilance (a constant feeling of being on guard)
  9. Uncontrollable anger; acting on it
  10. Unexplained or irrational fears of people, places, or things

One resource that can support you in this journey is a book called Try Softer. Many times, we can try to white-knuckle our way into wholeness and keep trying harder. Try Softer teaches how to develop a more compassionate, grace-filled approach to healing some of the traumas (both Big T and Little T) from our past. It is full of personal exercises to grow your heart and allow healing to come.

Another resource to understand healing the wounded parts of our soul is Boundaries for Your Soul. It shows how we can become more Spirit-led (see Romans 7 & 8) as we recognize parts of ourselves that need healing and love, and how to compassionately bring them to the Holy Spirit to help heal our hearts. There are additional exercises and questions for personal reflection.

Battle Cry would be a good one for men to relate with. In Battle Cry, you are provided with the mental and spiritual weapons needed to wage and win your inner war by showing you how to:

  • master your emotions rather than be ruled by them;
  • win internal battles before they become external wars;
  • reject the world’s definition of masculinity and embrace comprehensive manhood;
  • communicate more effectively with the people in your life;
  • release trauma from your past so you can live fully to your potential in the present.
